Professional Background

Dr. Zulkifli bin Hassan is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with over 20 years of experience in orthopaedics and trauma care, with special expertise in arthroscopic and sports injury surgery.

He obtained his MBBS degree from Karnatak University, India (Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College) in 1998 and later pursued his Master of Surgery (Orthopaedics) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, completing it in 2007.

Dr. Zulkifli began his medical career at Hospital Pulau Pinang and has since served in several major hospitals across Malaysia, including Hospital Batu Pahat, Hospital Sultanah Aminah Johor Bahru, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, and Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Since 2007, he has been serving at Hospital Sultan Ismail, Johor Bahru, where he is currently the Head of the Orthopaedic and Traumatology Department.

Between 2010 and 2013, Dr. Zulkifli completed an extensive Fellowship in Arthroscopic and Sports Injury Surgery at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tuanku Mizan, and Konkuk University Medical Centre, Seoul, where he trained under internationally renowned surgeons in sports and minimally invasive orthopaedic surgery.

He is actively involved in training and mentoring orthopaedic subspecialists under the Ministry of Health’s Arthroscopy and Sports Injury Fellowship Program and also serves as an examiner for the national fellowship examinations.

Dr. Zulkifli has presented at various scientific conferences on topics such as ACL reconstruction, meniscus injury management, patellofemoral instability, and quadriceps tendon rupture, reflecting his strong academic and clinical interest in sports medicine and reconstructive knee surgery.

Beyond his clinical and academic commitments, Dr. Zulkifli contributes significantly to hospital and national healthcare administration. He serves as the Coordinator for Daycare Surgery, POMR, and Casemix programs at Hospital Sultan Ismail, a committee member of the Malaysian Arthroscopic Society (MAS) from 2016 to 2023, and part of the core team for the development of Hospital Pasir Gudang.

He is also an active member of the Malaysian Orthopaedic Association (MOA) and the Malaysian Arthroscopic Society (MAS).
