Trigger Finger
A 70-year-old man who is an active golfer came to our clinic with pain in his left index finger. He wished to play golf without pain and return to his sport as soon as possible. We performed a trigger finger release under Wide-awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet (WALANT) in our clinic, instead of in the operating theatre.
Unlike general anesthesia, WALANT does not require a breathing tube or other respiratory support, which can reduce the risk of complications. Additionally, WALANT allows the surgeon to assess the adequacy of the release during the surgery by evaluating any limitation of movement.
Performing trigger finger release in an office setting using WALANT offers several benefits. Firstly, it can reduce the cost of the procedure, as there are no costs associated with general anesthesia, and no need for a hospital stay. Secondly, it can enhance patient safety as it avoids the risks associated with general anesthesia. Lastly, it can result in a quicker recovery time, as patients can typically resume their daily activities shortly after the procedure.
