What is trigger finger?
‘Painful finger, finger locked and unable to straighten.’
Trigger finger frequently occurs on housewives who are involved in doing house chores causing inflammation that narrows the space within the sheath that surrounds the tendon in the affected finger. In severe condition, finger might be locked in a bent position.
Who is at risk?
- Age 40-60
- Diabetes/gout/rheumatoid arthritis
- Job that requires repetitive finger and thumb movements
Trigger finger also frequently occurs on blue and white collar that frequently uses finger to exert force while working.
There are 4 grades of trigger finger
Grade 1: Pain and swollen of the affected finger.
Grade 2: Occasional locked finger but still able to straighten the finger.
Grade 3: Locked finger but able to straighten with help.
Grade 4: Locked finger, unable to straighten even with help.
Regardless of grades, trigger finger can be easily treated.
